Social Economics Workshop for Camphill Business and Finance Teams – November 14-15, 2024

Colleagues from across the region gathered for an inspiring and collaborative Camphill Business Office Workshop sponsored by Camphill Academy, Camphill Foundation, and Camphill Association of North America. The gathering brought together individuals engaged in similar operational roles within Camphill communities, fostering meaningful discussions on shared challenges and values. Participants explored foundational principles of Social Economics, focusing on how these ideas could guide daily administrative practices. This shared experience aimed to strengthen the sense of purpose and connection among administrative staff across the region.

The event also emphasized building relationships and encouraged creativity among colleagues. Residential and commuting staff alike participated, sharing insights and ideas for implementing practices more closely aligned with Social Economics. Through collaborative discussions, attendees discovered new approaches to managing their responsibilities.

Katie Ripple from The Camphill School summed up her experience: “Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Camphill Business Office Workshop, hosted at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills. I was not only enlightened to meet some people that I have only had contact with via email, but to get to know others that hold similar positions that I do in their various communities. I was particularly interested in learning more about the fundamental social law, as well as social economics, and how those two principles go hand-in-hand. The workshop has given me a deeper understanding of the crucial role that social economics and social law play in my line of work and the positive impact it can have on a larger scale.  What inspired me the most was the idea that our organizations should operate not just with financial prosperity in mind, but with a responsibility to their communities and society as a whole.”
