We are delighted to welcome Carla Bebee Comey and Jacob Hundt to the Board of Directors of Camphill Academy! Carla and Jacob’s combined expertise and dedication to learning will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow and strengthen our mission. We look forward to the contributions
Carla joined the faculty of Center for Anthroposophy (CfA), and the Antioch University New England (AUNE) Education Department, in 2016 where she currently serves as director of Waldorf Teacher Education, and teaches in the Building Bridges, Explorations, Antioch Nature-Based Early Childhood, and Antioch Waldorf Teacher Education programs. She is a member of the Teacher Education Delegates Circle of AWSNA, the Board of the Helios Center, and serves as co-director of Camphill Academy Afrika, a developing program for Waldorf teachers in inclusive classrooms in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Botswana.
Over the course of 26 years prior to joining CfA and AUNE, it was her joy to teach eurythmy, math, drama, and grades, and serve as faculty chair, college chair, and faculty administrator at Waldorf schools in Massachusetts, Oregon, and Colorado. She has also been a Waldorf mentor and evaluator, as well as an AWSNA delegate and accreditation team member.
Carla lives with her husband and three rescue dogs in the beautiful mountains of Colorado where she enjoys hiking, cross-country skiing, camping, singing in a Threshold Choir, and she tries to avoid adopting even more dogs that have had challenges finding permanent homes.
Jacob Hundt was born and raised on a dairy farm in the hilly, unglaciated Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin, about 30 minutes from the Mississippi River. As a child, he attended the Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School and Youth Initiative High School in Viroqua, Wisconsin and later became a trained Waldorf high school teacher, working as a teacher, counselor, and faculty chair at the Youth Initiative High School for over 15 years. Since 2015, Jacob has been leading a project to establish a new model of holistic education for young adults in Viroqua, a “microcollege” named Thoreau College, which today offers immersive gap semesters for groups of up to 15 college-students from around the world. Thoreau College programs combine academics, farm work, arts, wilderness expeditions, and community life and draw inspiration from the work of Rudolf Steiner, the Danish folk high school movement, and Deep Springs College. Jacob is also active in forming and promoting the growing microcollege movement, especially through his podcast, also called “Microcollege.” Jacob lives on a small farm with his wife Sofya, 4 children, and the Thoreau College flock of sheep.
We are delighted to introduce Jacqueline Gabe as the new Camphill Academy Program Director at Heartbeet Lifesharing!
It’s my first month officially flying solo as the program director here at Heartbeet. Training over the past month felt like taking a crash course in both administration and Camphill life—intensive, eye-opening, and deeply enriching. It’s been a joy to meet so many kind, dedicated people, and I find myself truly inspired by the community and its mission. I’m grateful to have found a role where I can contribute to bringing a high-value, enlightened curriculum to others in such a meaningful setting.
I’m passionate about inner development and helping people grow through artistic expression, connection, and meaningful learning. For the past 30 years, I’ve taught people of all ages in a wide range of subjects—from movement education and art to academics, games, and play. I’m a certified Waldorf teacher and was one of the founding teachers of Orchard Valley Waldorf School where I taught for 17 years. I also hold certifications in Pilates, Spacial Dynamics, and English as a Second Language.
As a young adult, I founded a small dance company as well as an arts program serving adults with mental disabilities. Currently, I serve on the organizing group for the Vermont chapter of the Christian Community Church and continue to teach a variety of arts independently throughout my community. I’m a meditator, hobby artist, and Steiner enthusiast, and I enjoy muddling through life’s questions at my home in Barre, Vermont.
